The three questions that price your job
How deep is your water? Footage drives drilling cost more than every other factor combined, and it varies parcel by parcel across the Gulf Coast Aquifer’s stacked sands. The Texas Water Development Board keeps the submitted driller reports for the whole state at twdb.texas.gov, and reading the wells around your land converts the depth question from a gamble into a lookup.
What does the well need to deliver? A three bedroom house, a cattle operation and a pivot irrigation system want very different gallons per minute, and flow requirements set bore size, casing diameter and pump class. Sizing honestly in both directions matters: an undersized well starves the house on laundry day, and an oversized one wastes thousands of dollars pumping capacity nobody uses.
Who does the work and files the paper? Texas licenses water well drillers and pump installers through TDLR, at tdlr.texas.gov, and requires a well report on every completed hole. Locally, the Victoria County Groundwater Conservation District requires notice of intent before drilling and registration after, per vcgcd.org.
